This morning I met with Nikos Kolios, a Head teacher, and visited his school 1. Dimotiko Anatolis Primary School. We discussed a variety of current issues in education and compared our schools and educational systems. I also met and talked at length with Emily Sichari, an English teacher at the school. It was interesting to compare the ways in which teachers are motivated. Emily was impressed with the performance management structure in English schools. I was thrilled to have the opportunity to view the school, including a class of 6 year olds and the art room. I was impressed with the excellent standard of art work and look forward exchanging childrens' work when I return.

Later in the morning Ian, Becky and Jon were taken to the Centre of Traditional Handcraft of Ioannina. The art of silverware is synonymous with the area and has been since the 17th century. We first viewed the showroom displaying a variety of items, all handmade within the Centre. The items included jewellery, picture frames and religious icons. We were then treated to a short tour of two silver workshops. We learned about the techniques employed in the creation of silverware.
