This morning Becky is visiting the University of Ioannina, School of Education. This university has an extensive campus outside the town. Campus facilities are attractive and the term is in session.
Here she is meeting with Katerina Plakitsi, Assistant Professor of Science Education. Katerina has responsibility for early years education. She has agreed to answer many questions concerning education systems in Greece. Issues covered include Special Education, the curriculum and pedagogy for early years.
Becky has the opportunity to observe a taught session and she enjoyed meeting the trainee teachers.
It is the week of elections for the student union. Studnts are enjoying the canvassing and campaigning.
Here in Greece, children start school aged 6 years. They transfer to secondary at 12 years. Secondary school lasts 3 years and then most students transfer to Lyceum. Becky has been provided with a good insight into the education systems. The GSE visit provides another dimension to the idea of studying abroad.
