Day 13 - Volos and Makrinitsa

Last night Panos and Takis took us for a stroll out along the harbour wall. Looking back towards the hills, we could see the village of Makrinitsa high above Volos. In the harbour, a rainbow coloured the evening sky. We watched the sunset over the large ships which were sheltering in the port. Volos is known for being the place where Jason set sail with the Argonauts.

After the walk, we travelled together by bus through a heavy downpour to a beautiful hillside restaurant. Here we enjoyed a magnificent meal and relaxed in the company of Nena, Theano, Panos and Takis.

Today, Panos negotiated the hairpin bends on a steep climb up to Makrinitsa. We strolled through traditional picturesque streets, taking in the panoramic views of Volos and its harbour. Roadside stalls displayed a range of items, including aromatic herbs and gifts.

We were privileged to be welcomed at the summer home of the District Governor and his wife for lunch.
